~ What is the Throat Chakra ~
The fifth energy centre of the body is the Vishuddha Chakra. This Chakra governs our internal communication with our true Self, our abilities of communication and listening, identifying body language, self-expression and authenticity.
The Sanskrit name of Vishuddha translates to "especially pure". We consider this to mean that our thoughts, intentions, words and actions come from a place of purity allowing us to be compassionate, express our truest selves, and be able to communicate clearly and honestly without fear of judgement.

Endorcrine Gland: Thymus
~ Characteristics of Vishuddha ~
Element: The ruling element of Vishuddha is space or Akasha. Space is all about potential. The potential to create, to expand, to give form to anything you can imagine. It also symbolises the need for seeking and speaking your truth.
Balanced Throat Chakra: Is able to clearly communicate, Sense of direction and purpose, High level of inspiration and creative flow, Compassion over judgement of self & others, Self-expression, Confidence and Self-empowerment
Overactive Chakra: Over opinionated, Chatterbox, Can be verbally abusive and yell, Won't listen to what others have to say, Won't listen to our inner Self
Underactive Chakra: Communication or speaking your Truth is difficult, Introverted or shy, Unable to express yourself, Lacks confidence
Colour: Blue
Essential Oils: Lavender, Spearmint, Frankincense
Crystals: Lapis Lazuli, Blue Lace Agate, Blue Apatite, Sodalite, Amazonite

Symbol: The Vishuddha symbol is a 16 petalled lotus flower, symbolising purity and spirituality. The 16 petals are a representation of the 16 vowels of the Sanskrit language.

~ Vishuddha Self-Care Rituals ~
JOURNALLING: The practice of journalling is such a beautiful journey. If you struggle to verbalise your thoughts, to speak your truth, or just feel the need to release anything, let it all flow out onto the paper. Have a daily practice of recording truthfully how you feel with no judgement on yourself. Journalling is just speaking with a pen.
SING! Sing loudly and proudly! This is personally one of my all-time favourite things to do. You don't have to be a good singer, but using your voice in this way does wonders for the throat chakra, gently opening and healing the chakra. Alternatively, screaming and/or laughing serves to release any pent up emotions that you may be holding onto.
HERBS: Herbs are a beautiful and gentle way to care for the throat chakra! Such herbs include peppermint, clove, cinnamon, fennel, spearmint and slippery elm. Add these herbs to your food for flavour and a little extra magic, or try them in your cuppa. Drinking tea is our number one pastime here in the studio!
AFFIRMATIONS: Affirmations are a powerful tool as they set the intention for whatever it is you are wanting in that moment, like to speak with confidence and clarity, to always listen to your true Self, or to set clear boundaries and honour them. Repeating these affirmations all throughout the day goes a long way towards achieving them, as they help to reprogram any negative beliefs and self doubt, creating new thought patterns and behaviours.

I feel comfortable speaking my truth.
I am balanced in speaking and listening.
I speak my true thoughts with clarity.
I honour my boundaries.
My voice is necessary.
