~ What is the Solar Plexus Chakra ~
The Solar Plexus Chakra is the third energy centre of the body, and it's Sanskrit name is Manipura. 'Mani' can be translated as shining and 'pura' as the place, creating the combined name "The Shining Place".
Manipura is located between the bottom of the ribcage and the navel, and is associated with the element of fire. The name The Shining Place is so fitting for the third Chakra (we like to imagine it as our own personal sun within our bodies) as this is the energy centre that unlocks and governs our sense of self, our personal power, and our inner well of wisdom. Aside from that, it is also the physical place our bodies receive and convert heat and energy.
Body Areas: Stomach, Liver, Digestive System
Endocrine Gland: Pancreas
~ Characteristics of Manipura ~
Element: The element of Manipura is fire. We receive this element in the form of heat from the sun, and the foods we consume that absorb sunlight. Fire ignites a passion within all of us to strive for success, to never give up, and to always be confidently you.
Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra: Ego has no affect or influence over you, You graciously accept your place in the world, Gratitude for others, Confidence, Self-worth, Willpower
Overactive Chakra: Have a lack of energy & drive, Judgmental, Critical, Rigid, Stubborn, Perfectionist, Workaholic
Underactive Chakra: Feelings of being alone & afraid, Worries about what others think of you, Mistrusting, Doubt, Passive, Indecisive
Essential Oils: Bergamot & Grapefruit
Mantra: I do, wholeheartedly, believe in myself
Affirmations beginning with I DO activate the Solar Plexus Chakra
Symbol: The symbol for Manipura is the 10-petaled mandala style lotus flower with the downward facing triangle.

~ Manipura Self-Care Rituals ~
SUN-SHINING: Represented by the element of fire, the sun is a healing source of vitality reducing issues such as anxiety & depression. Taking a short walk or relaxation in the sunshine is a powerful practice for the Solar Plexus Chakra.
FOODS: As the Solar Plexus deals with the digestive system, eating good nutrient-enriched food is a good way to connect with and heal the Solar Plexus. Foods such as bananas, brown rice, corn, flax seeds, granola, lentils, oatmeal, pineapples, quinoa, whole wheat breads, yellow capsicum, and peppermint or chamomile tea are all great for the Solar Plexus.
AFFIRMATIONS: The use of affirmations can be a powerful healing practice that supports your total well-being, and when used right can bring so much high vibe energy into your day. For solar plexus chakra healing, focus on affirmations specifically dedicated to helping you feel confident, empowered, worthy, motivated, limitless and strong.
You can repeat your affirmations at anytime, as you wake up in the morning, in your journal, any time you need to re-ground and re-frame a moment of overwhelm, and during meditation (I love to use my mala and repeat the same affirmation 108 times as I flow through my meditation practice - this affirms your statement in every cell of your being). Here are some we love
I am enough, have always been enough, and will always be enough
I am worthy
I am limitless
Limitless joy is my birthright
I am powerful, strong & confident
Confidence & strength radiate from my entire being
YOGA: Yoga is one of my favourite ways to bring balance to the chakra system. To flow with each posture and to send your breath into the chakra centre is incredibly impactful and empowering.
For the solar plexus chakra, here are some of my favourite postures to balance this energy centre:
Any form of a twist
Reverse Triangle Pose
Full Boat Pose
